For my English class last year, our teacher asked us to write different kinds of poems. I thought I can share some.. ^__^
There were five types of poems: Purpose poem, Imagery poem, Metaphor poem, Personification poem, and Limerick. I'm only going to put four of them up, because I think the purpose poem was horrible... > >
Imagery Poem - Topic: Banana..
Look there; sitting in the plastic white basket, is a banana.
Ignore the apples, oranges, pears and grapes; the focus is on the bright fallen moon.
It remains unmoved liked a tied boat on calm waters.
It's curve is shaped liked the edge of the scythe of the grime reaper.
As you break it's armour, it sounds like a whip crackling in the air.
Now, beneath the smooth, hard skin, lays the savoury flesh of gold.
With tastes so sweet, it seems like all the world's marshmallow are packed into this one bite.
With smells so enchanting. it seems like the world's entire fragrance is in this one whiff.
Look there; on that tree, is a bunch of ripen bananas.
Why not reach and grab a handful of that palpable sunshine?
Note: Basically, I'm suppose to describe the banana...so I just described its smell, shape, taste, etc using pretty imagery.
Metaphor poem - Topic: Life
When life is shattered, each day is a fragment of its puzzle.
When life is a hyacinth, each day is blossomed with tranquility.
When life is an essay, each day is a new page covered with flowing thoughts.
When life is a symphony, each day is a melancholy tune.
When life is a chain, each day is a link in the future.
When life is a cage, each day is an unsatisfied desire to escape.
When life is complete, each day is the warmth of your embrace.
Note: I thought this poem was a little cliche..
Personification poem
Swift footsteps echo through the abandoned street.
The flickering streetlights lend their weary visions to this sudden visitor.
The wailing winds explore the passenger with their icy fingers, while the snow childishly attacks the unveiled face of the stranger.
The lazy fog wakes from his sleep, and casts a blanket across every corner.
Amidst the distress, the righteous street sign guides the child out of the pranks of nature.
Despite the shadows which cover the path with their gloomy bodies, in the distance, the warm glow of lights beckon to its owner.
Together, they cooed softly, "welcome home."
Note: My favourite one....the one that took me the longest. As you can see, all the objects were animated with human features, but the real story is just a child going home on a cold, snowy, foggy, dark, night.
Limerick
There was once a little boy named Mack
Who wants his hair in the colour black
He said he hates brown
But he got some frowns
Instead his mother turned his hair whack
Note: This poem was very precise, the teacher wanted the exact syllables in each sentence...
Anyways, this is all, I hope you all like them!
