Watching U, Without Touching
----------------------------------------------Becoming Jane
Leading roles:
Jane Austen, Tom Lefroy-----------------Becoming Jane
Elizabeth Bannet, Darcy-----------------Pride & Prejudice
Having heard the movie”Becomin g Jane” for a long time before, but till now, I’m lazy enough to watch this movie. Well for me, the movie was heard the SAME as “Pride & Prejudice”, or at least the plot shares the same. With the honor of both “Pride & Prejudice” and Jane Austen, I don’t want to watch the edition which may hurt both my feelings and my nice memories.
But now, I find that I have been totally wrong.
->the HEROINE-----Jane Austen (Anne Hathaway)
Sharing almost the same character with Elizabeth, Jane is an independent, witty, broadminded and a little emotional person who fulfills her mind with intelligence from the book, which makes her different from the others around. She is always well-behaved, but sometimes seems ironic, occasionally.
Let’s have a short recall of Elizabeth first.
As the second elder daughter, Elizabeth has a natural sense of amiability. She loves reading, through which she has a well self education and strong-willed independence; she also has a strong sense of self esteem. Although she was born in the old days, she is a typical woman of modern times.
As for me, she is perfectly the right heroine in my imagination.
Compared with Elizabeth, Jane is more real and reliable. She will become so angry if someone laughs at her elaborated articles as to fire them; she will sometimes speak ill of someone if she has a strong feeling towards him, especially it is not something good; she will be frustrated and even given in to the pressure of both family and life.
These differences may be the results of life, the true unchangeable life.
Elizabeth always keeps sensible, purposeful, and knows what to do next. But it’s not easy for every one of us to keep well controlled.
Actually every one of us may some day bumps into something out of control. Since we are human beings who are not able to manage everything in life, we may turn out to be scared and fainthearted and eventually bent down to them. It’s very common in the real life, although it’s also very commonly ignored by writers and producers.
However, life is what life is, it can’t go on in a planned way. So, the truth is we can’t always do whatever we want; neither can we change our life according to our own will. So when Elizabeth turned down the purpose of someone she didn’t like while Jane couldn’t, we audiences can merely sigh for Jane, for she is a real person while Elizabeth isn’t.
After all, they are two different worlds apart.
However, Jane is brave enough.
In the aim of love, she hands in her reputation, her status, even her family without hesitation. Surprisingly, she gives in to life without eyebrowing, too. They have no treasure at all, no money, no blessing, except their love and families which cannot be abandoned.
Heartbroken though, separating is inevitable.
After all, Elizabeth lives in a totally different world from Jane, more idealized, and more romantic. Maybe it’s just shows the good wishes inside Jane, for she is not able to reach her own dream.
->the HERO-----Tom Lefroy (James McAvoy)
If Jane were compared to Elizabeth, then Tom should be Darcy.
To be truly, I like them both.
Darcy is rather arrogant, impolite, and bad-tempered. He is well-educated but too strictly to be satisfied with something. He looks rather odd outside but truly kind and gentle inside. His strange behavior, including his first purpose to Elizabeth which is really very annoying, turns out to be loneliness.
He is educated from the first moment to behave like a nobleman, which limits his expression of an ordinary man. He doesn’t know how to behave kindly in the neighbors; he doesn’t know how to make accomplishments to a lady; he doesn’t know how to express himself to someone he tempted. These caused a lot of misunderstandings between him and Elizabeth.
Fortunately, he wins Elizabeth’s heart through his generosity and love.
As for Tom, he isn’t as well-educated as Darcy, though he is on his way to becoming a lawyer. On his first scene, he isn’t as elegant as I thought he should be. Tom Lefroy, a lawyer student, is boxing at a courtesan’s place, and is late for the law study. It gave me really a bad impression.
But later, his interesting way of talking, his passion really impacted me. Tom is naughtier and more broadminded. He takes part in all kinds of social activities and is also good at them. Compared with Darcy, Tom seems more abandoned, but that doesn’t mean him is a bad man. Actually, he shares his allowance from his uncle with his families. Although he has no money, no house, he is really a reliable man.
->the COUPLE-------------Tom & Jane and Darcy & Elizabeth
Although they share the same love modes, T& J and D& E are totally two different world’s people. There are many differences between them.
FIRSTLY, Tom & Jane know how to exchange themselves.
Compared with the gentlemen’s words towards their lady, their difference are really too distinctive.
(1) ordinary talking
No matter how bad their first impressions are, T&J still can exchange their feelings with each other, though most of them are sarcastic. The result is very prominent, and they get to know each other soon. But D&E can’t even make an entire talking. Maybe this is part of the reason for their misunderstandings.
(2) love words
Here are some love words extracted by Tom.
(Under the moonlight)
Tom: “I have no money, no property…But, you must know what I feel. Jane, I’m yours, ah, I’m yours. I’m yours, heart and sour.”
Sincere and heartfelt. Nobody is going to ignore these words and the man who said them.
But here are some love words said by Darcy.
(In a terrible rainfall)
Darcy:”Miss Elizabeth. I have struggled in vain and can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I have fought against judgment, my family’s expectation, the inferiority of your birth, my rank. ”
Elizabeth:”I don’t understand”
Darcy:”I love you. Most ardently. Please do me the honor of accepting my hand.”
In terms of Darcy, these words are really very unexpectable. But, I dare say, no girls would be moved by these “rude” though frank words.
Another example of Darcy.
(Dawn)
Darcy:”You must know. Surely you must know it was all for you...My affections and wishes have not changed…If, however, your feelings have changed…I would have to tell you, you bewitched me, body and soul, and I love…I love…I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.”
Getting out of his arrogance, Darcy is lovelier now, so is his words.
SECONDLY, Darcy is financially independent while Tom is not.
This may explain why gentle Tom would dare to say these heartbroken words.
Tom:“I depend entirely upon…”
“That I must, that I have my duty to my family, Jane…I must think of them as well as …”
Jane:“Tom, is that all you have to say to me?”-------heartbroken,
Just like her did, looking into his eyes, I don’t know what was inside.
“Goodbye, Mr. Lefroy”
At first, I thought it was Tom who should be to blame for the failure of their love, but when the letter came out, I realized that I was totally wrong.
Tom is not only a loyal man, but also a responsible man. It is their condition, their property condition that caused their tragedy.
Probably, Jane didn’t realize her beautiful love dream at last, so she turned into novels, and by creating Elizabeth and Darcy, she somehow gained another her own happy endings.
->the ACTOR and ACTRESS
Leading actor and actress:
Jane Austen---------Anne Hathaway
Tom Lefroy----------James McAvoy
Anne Hathaway, the beautiful American actress, really did a good job in this movie. Through her acting, Jane is clearly seen beautiful, sensible, intelligent, independent and individual.
The Irish actor, James McAvoy, contains a deep emotion in his light blue eyes. He transmits a loyal, responsible, passionate, charming and a little naughty Tom to us. Thanks to him, I get chance to know such a wonderful person.
At last,I want to add that it's a very nice movie,it's really worth watching.
