A. Interest. Interest is always the best teacher. If your motivation is just simply remembering more words, I suggest you first get yourself a good reason for studying. Well, being able to watch the original movie or drama can be a good one.
B. Perseverance. Accumulating the words can be a dull and boring and tough job to do, so you need to be very patient with yourself and your study.

As we all know, vocabulary is of great importance to our study. But the problem is how to remember words effectively and efficiently.
Here are three ways which might be helpful to you.
(All I’m listing here have been experienced on myself, so if you find them ineffective, the reasons might be either they are NOT FIT for you or you are not working hard enough.)
A. Prepare a notebook for detailed new words study.
This book is used when you come across some new yet frequently appeared words, look them up in your dictionary and keep them down in it. You need to keep down both the basic meaning of the words and the example sentences (one or two will be OK).
Read them everyday and skip those you have already remembered.
Try to review all the words you have learned in a fixed time, for example, the last day of the week.
B. Keep another notebook for the words you can’t remember clearly.
There are always those words you know but just can’t remember them. So, you need to keep a note of them and review them regularly. In this book, you need only keep the brief meaning of the word.
C. Do some reading regularly.
The article should be chosen carefully. It need to contain some new words but not too many. The more fluently you read it, the better you will remember about the words.
It will be better if the article has an audio edition. You can practice your oral English at the same time.

Language is always a tool for communication. So do remember that all you have done is just for the purpose of communication.
A. speak out!
Never be afraid of speaking English in China, because no one here is native.
Try to speak more with your friends or people around and forget about the grammar when saying. But you need to avid the same mistakes. By doing so, you will develop the skill of thinking in English.
B. Imitate the natives.
By saying native, I’m not referring to the native people, but you can also do so if it is available.
You can imitate the movies or dramas or audio reading. Try to imitate their tongue and intonation.
C. About the slang and idioms.
Just like we Chinese, English has its own dialect, which is more often called slang. But the truth is that we aren’t living abroad, so instead of squeezing your head remember those rare words, I suggest you spend more on your required vocabulary.
The same with idioms, but if you want to show your talent in writing, you can have a try.

This is the essential part of our exams. So you need to be very careful dealing with it.
The only shortcuts maybe go over your ambiguous part before the exam.
In general, you can only study it careful and try to make a sum-up about the specific usage.
That’s all I can remember now.
At last, I want to say that English study is a long process, you just need to keep on, and your English will definitely be improved.
Hope this can be of use to you.
