MRSA is usually thought of as the predatory bacteria ready to pounce on anyone admitted to average British hospital. Patients are beginning to refuse to have advisable, but not essential, surgery because they fear that their wounds will become infected with MRSA. It presents a real risk but not such a hazard that people should spend sleepless nights for want of a new hip or knee joint.
