今天我们要讲的美国习惯用语是：icing on the cake。大家都知道，cake是蛋糕的意思，icing是用来在蛋糕上做点缀的糖霜。如果我们说一件事情是icing on the cake，那就是说“好上加好”。在中文里也可以说是“锦上添花”。

举个例子吧，老板刚刚通知我，要给我升职提薪。这本来已经是天大的好消息了，不一会儿秘书又过来告诉我，要给我换一件新装修的办公室，还带窗户呢！这就叫

中文里常说，好事成双。让我们看看下面这个女孩子遇到了什么开心的事。她的哥哥说：

My little sister was so excited when her braces were taken off her teeth earlier than expected. Even better, she got invited to the school dance by one of the most popular boys in her class the next day. Talk about icing on the cake! She had one great thing happen on top of the other.
我妹妹刚刚摘了整形牙套，比预定时间早了很多，让她喜出望外。更美的是，第二天就有个班里很抢手的男孩子邀请她去参加舞会。这可真是锦上添花，好事不断。
这个女孩子可真够幸运的。这让我想起我舅舅，他原以为自己长了脑瘤，后来查出来，长期头疼是由于视力衰退引起的，配副眼镜就解决问题了。the icing on the cake是，他跟眼镜店的接待员一见钟情，没过多久，那个接待员就成了我的舅妈。他们两人恩恩爱爱，已经过了三十年。

在美国，经常会有各种各样的抽奖比赛，我是从来不参加，因为知道自己赢不了。不过每次看到别人得奖，还是挺羡慕的。让我们看看下面这个球迷最近交了什么好运：

The baseball magazine I subscribe to ran a contest. And guess what? I received the grand prize: two tickets to the World Series. I couldn’t be any luckier than if the Yankees were to win. Seeing my favorite team score another victory would be the icing on the cake!
